Continuing Education Class Schedule for
Power Limited Technicians
Power Limited Technician Continuing Education classes by The Low Voltage Guy are specifically designed for persons working in low voltage professions and trades. Ed Lethert (the Low Voltage Guy) brings more than 50 years of technical education, experience, research and study to the continuing education classroom.
Most classes listed below are approved for 8 hours of CE credit by the Minnesota Department of Labor, and include a minimum of 2 hours on the NEC. Some classes do not include an NEC component. These classes fulfill one-half of the 16 hour requirement for persons who hold PLT licenses.
New classes have now been added that are intended to fulfill the second 8 hours of the 16 hour CE requirement. These classes have different course ID numbers. Please remember that a specific course with a specific course ID number will apply towards required continuing education credits only once within any one renewal period.
The technical content of these classes can be adjusted to cover specific technical subjects when classes are conducted for a group (company) with specific technology needs/interests.
A few of the continuing education classes listed below are shorter sessions (these classes are clearly identified), fulfilling either 2 or 4 hours of the required hours. Some of these shorter classes include the mandatory 2 hours of NEC content, and some do not.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING !!!
CE credits may be obtained in any increment (i.e. 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours, 8 hours, or 16 hours).
CE credits may be obtained from one or more approved providers. There is no requirement in the law or rules that mandates that all CE credits be obtained from a single provider.
Licensed electricians are now permitted to obtain unlimited hours of instruction from approved classes taught by a power limited technician. (Electricians are reminded that they need a minimum of 12 hours on the NEC).
It is the
responsibility of the license holder to make sure that:
1. A class is approved by the DLI for PLT or electrician continuing education
credits.
2. They do not duplicate courses within the same renewal period.
3. They obtain the minimum required hours and meet the minimum NEC
requirement.
4. They are within the appropriate renewal period. Credits are not carried
forward to a new renewal period.
5. They obtain their CE credits sufficiently in advance of their license
expiration date.
Payment for classes is required in advance and no later than the beginning of the first class day. Contact persons identified below can provide cost information to interested individuals.
The Low Voltage Guy (Ed Lethert) no longer teaches classes at Anoka Technical College or Dakota County Technical College.
